Welcome to the Winfield Public Library’s William Allen White Book Club! While only participating students in grades 3-5 and 6-8 (who have read at least 2 or more from the list) are eligible to vote for their favorite books in April, ANYONE of ANY AGE may read and enjoy the books, and all are invited to keep track through our online Beanstack reading tracker and/or our paper notebooks (available at the library- just ask for one and pick it up curbside).
The William Allen White Children’s Book Award is the oldest statewide children’s book award in the United States.
Established in 1952 to encourage KS children to read and enjoy books, the award honors the late William Allen White, editor of The Emporia Gazette. For more info about the William Allen White Award and the books on the list, visit: wawchildrensbookaward.com.
Youth vote in April. To be eligible to vote through your school library, 3rd-5th or 6th-8th grade students must read at least two of the books from their grade’s 2020-2021 Master List. Of course, the more you read, the better!
If you are a student without a school library, your Winfield Public Library’s Youth Services Librarian is available to help get your vote counted. You may contact her by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 620-221-4470.
Enjoy the books! And THANK YOU FOR READING!
