OUR SUMMER READING PROGRAMS
June 1 – July 22, 2016
Every Hero Has a Story, and yours begins at your library! Join us for exceptional summer programs FREE OF CHARGE and earn prizes for reading. We are so excited to open our newly renovated library for programming this year. Your library is a true escape from the ordinary!
Summer Reading Program registration begins May 21. We will be at the Winfield Recreation Center from 8-10 am to conveniently register those signing up for Rec And Arts activities. No registration is required for adult summer readers.
A Kick-off Party is scheduled for June 6 from 6:30-7:30 pm. It’s a Super Hero Extravaganza!! Come as your favorite hero if you’d like–the sky’s the limit!

Monday Family Nights through July 18 (with exception of July 4): from 6:30-7:30 pm
June 27: UNEXPECTED HEROES
With special guest storyteller, Priscilla Howe
July 4: NO PROGRAM
The library is closed to celebrate Independence Day, a good day to remember and thank a hero!
July 11: AN EPIC MAGIC SHOW!
With special guest magician, Dan Dan the Magic Man
July 18: THE LEGEND OF WALTER WEIRDBEARD
Special by Matt Sandbank’s Shadow Factory, using shadow puppetry.
Tuesdays through July 12 from 2:30-4 pm:
Guardians of the Galaxy special programs for ages 10-12.
Games, science experiments, fortune cookies, disguises, costume parties, and saving the world programs designed especially for our fierce, courageous, brilliant & awesome pre-teenagers.
June 28: “MASK-A-RAID”
It’s a hero party. Make up your hero name and superpowers, we will have supplies to make your own costumes as well.
July 5: MINUTE TO WIN IT
Guardians of the Galaxy have a variety of important skills. These tasks test them and train you for anything.
July 12: “GUARDIANS CHOICE”
Today’s fate lies in the Guardians of the Galaxy’s hands….
Wednesdays through July 13 from 10-11 am:
Storytime Squad for ages birth to 5. Adventure, puppets, songs, action, rhymes and FANTASTIC stories, specially designed for little wiggly heroes in the making. Bring your babies, toddlers, preschoolers and kindergargeners for the FREE FUN!
June 29: Whammy Zammy! Fun with Rhymes
July 6: Bam! Earth Power and the Wonders of Nature
July 13: Kapow! Every Hero Has a Story
Thursdays through July 14 from 2:30-3:30 pm:
Champ Academy for ages 5-10. What do farmer/ranchers, a bug expert, a ventriloquist, the zoo, a scientist, a juggler and local heroes have in common? They are all special guest presenters at the FREE champ Academy Programs!
June 30: ANIMAL SUPER HEROES
With special guests from the Sedgwick County Zoo.
July 7: A-MOOOO-ZING HEROES!
Meet heroes of farming and ranching with special guests including Denise Middleton, Farm Bureau of Cowley County
July 14: EVERY HERO HAS A STORY
With special guest heroes in our community. Wear a swimsuit under your clothes and bring a towel. Following this session is a splash water party outside the library with the help of the Winfield Fire Department and their trucks! Party is 3:30 pm – 4:30pm.
“Masters of Everything” Teen Night 6:30 – 8 pm
Thursday June 30: “Mask-A-Raid” It’s a party! Make up your hero name/superpowers, we have supplies to make your costumes. Shenanigans of heroic proportions will ensue.
Fridays through July 22 from 2:30 until the end of the movie:
Movie Matinee for all the family
Friday Movie Matinees are offered by the Winfield Public Library and the Winfield Rec Center free of charge. Movies are for children ages 7 and up; younger children should be accompanied by an adult or older sibling (10+). Popcorn provided; feel free to bring your own snacks, pillows, and blankets… Call the library for the the movie title of your week(s) of interest. Make yourself comfy and enjoy the show!

Adventure in Art for ages 7 through adult
Action Figures with Alberto Giacometti
Unleash your super art power! Madeline Norland leads these free art exploration programs highlighting three super artists and their famous artistic styles.
