Join us for a fizzy, bubbly, booming, brain boosting, dynamite, sparkly, and explosive summer!  This year’s summer reading program theme is FIZZ BOOM READ! Programs will be science centered and guaranteed fun!  We offer a variety of fantastic programs for children of all ages.  All programs are free of charge and age appropriate. We offer PRIZES for you and your kids to read throughout the summer.  Registration is quick and easy begins May 17th.

“Night Lights” (evening programs for all ages)

Mondays: 6:30 pm- 7:30 pm, June 2- July 7

Anyone can enjoy these booming evening programs!  Shadow puppetry, magic, music, comedy and more!

June 2: SCIENCE ALIVE! DOC GIZMO’S SCIENCE THEATRE

June 9: DRUM SAFARI!
With special guest musician Brandon Draper

June 23: LEGEND OF WALTER WEIRDBEARD
Special by Matt Sandbank’s Shadow Factory, using shadow puppetry.

June 30: PAJAMARAMA-BEDTIME STORIES AND SNACKS
Wear your pjs to the library and enjoy stories and a snack before bed!

July 7: CHAIN REACTION! solid science with a side of silliness
Juggling, magic and comedy with Jay and Leslie’s Laughing Matters.

 

“Whiz Kids” (baby/toddler/preschool programs, ages 0-5)

Wednesdays: 10:00 am-11:00 am, June 4- July 9

Fund and interactive stories, puppet shows, songs, and hands-on activities for our little Einsteins.

June 11: BUBBLE, BUBBLE, POP! bubble fun

June 18: ZIP, ZOOM, WEEEEE! things that go

June 25: NOODLE, POODLE, DOODLE! fun with rhymes

“Mad Scientist” (elementary ages programs, ages 6-10)

Tuesdays: 2:30 pm-3:30 pm, June 3- July 8

Our summer adventures include exciting and fascinating weekly programs with fantastic special guest presenters!Mad Scientist Exploration Programs are fun and interactive sessions that include special guest presenters and hands-on activities.

June 3: MAD SCIENCE!
It’s a science-palooza! With guests from Mad Science!

June 10: THREE, TWO, ONE, BLAST-OFF!
Rocketry with guests from the Kansas Cosmosphere.

June 17: AMAZING MAGIC SHOW!
With special guest magician from Philip and Henry Magic.

June 24: IT’S A ZOO AT THE LIBRARY!
With special guests from the Sedgwick County Zoo.

July 1: A-MOOOO-ZING SCIENCE!
With special guest Denise Middleton, Farm Bureau of Cowley County

July 8: SINGING SCIENCE!
With special guest musician/songwriter Thad Beach.

 

“Spark a Reaction” (pre-teen (tween) programs, ages 10-12)

Thursdays: 2:30 pm-3:30 pm, June 5- July 10

Weekly programs for pre-teens are fun and relaxed with entertaining adventures each week.  SPARK A REACTION tween Programs are laid back and friendly, where you make stuff, play games and hang out.  There are summer volunteer opportunities for teenagers aged 12+.  For more information, visit the library

June 12: SURVIVING A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE
Learn the essentials of surviving a zombie apocalypse.
It is always good to be prepared!

June 19: “KATNISS, KATNISS, KATNISS”
It’s a book character party! Come dressed as a favorite book
character. (it doesn’t have to be Katniss Everdeen :) Costumes are
not required, just fun!

June 26: “THAT’S DISGUSTING! GROSSOLOGY 101”
Ghastly, revolting and repulsive crafts and experiments

July 3: HORSE RESCUE PROGRAM
PICK YOUR PASSION-MAKE A DIFFERENCE with special guest
Amy Bayes (and some of her rescued horses!) .

July 10: “SAY IT WITH PLASTIC”
Fun with a 3D Printer! With Special guest Joe Clasen
Career and Tech Education Department Chair, Cowley College.

 

 

“After Hours Teen Nights” (special teen events, ages 13-17)

Fridays: 6:30 pm- 8:30 pm, June 13, June 27, and July 11

Special “after hours” teen events include playing capture the flag in the stacks, glow in the dark crafts, and critiquing/narrating campy movies by texting the big screen.

It’s a party in the stacks!  Come as your favorite book character!

Movie Matinees (ages 7+)

Fridays: 2:30 pm- movie end, June 6- July 25

Grab some pillows and blankets and head over to the library for Friday movies! Co-sponsored by the Rec Center, the movies are free of charge.  Feel free to bring your own snacks!
